Brass,
That compound of copper and zinc
Has made many float and many sink
Trials of the ego, heralded by brass
Include the trumpet,
and the bed, too, alas
Discovered by the ancients,
in times gone by
It has seen many a smile
and many a sigh
How it must have laughed
at the childish play
Indulged by grown-ups, to this day
