Branded Poem by Ed Homer

Branded

Blatant lies are all around me
Nightmares entering my dreams
I cannot seem to find the answers
What has come over me

The clock strikes its tone
The alarm goes off in my head
Its not time yet to hear it
I should be resting instead

Memories of distant struggles
Aftermath laid upon our heads
I only tried to serve my country
Branded a killer instead

Blamed us as baby killers
The Vietnamese dropped that napalm
But I am the obvious culprit
Being a America allows a target on

While you a abort babies at your call
Politicians and activists bang the drum
Parading my life for all to see
I'm surely public enemy number one

They say we have many protections
So tell me why I couldn't get a job
When special interests got first choice
While about me they raised alarm

I no longer support Government
Pawns and puppets one and all
Activists and civil rights leaders
Control where the hammer falls

And If I should end up dead
Well that's how it is after all
Al-tho being born of Greek decent
My skin is white so I hit a wall

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I served during Nam, I never entered Vietnam, Many of my fellow vets did, Even so I was called a baby killer because I served during that time, Hypocrites that abort children called me a killer, And it was Charlie(Vietnamese that dropped the napalm that burned that child in the magazine cover they were so proud of, I was kicked out of college when Affirmative action came into play, I was forced back to a job, I fell and am disabled for life, So if I sound bittertry to understand, I had to fight the government for 15 years to get my disability while my family lived in poverty on government assistance because I couldn't work! I hold no one person as guilty, But decisions of the few, Hurt many for no reason other than to do it.
