Boys Poem by Belle Violet

Boys

My favorite time of day
comes at night.
Surrounded by boys
on all sides.
Above me
a tiny orange fluff,
And, at my feet,
my sweet not-so-tiny-anymore
little ruff-ruff.
And then,
to my right,
there's the love of my life.
Some nights
when it's quiet
and the whole world is silent
I can hear
three heartbeats
beating
for me.
And some nights they're all snoring,
squirming and moving.
some nights, with these three,
I can almost see their dreams.
One mumbles, one kicks,
the other meows and licks,
and some nights,
I can't sleep
if any of them are sick.
There's no feeling more peaceful in the world
than being surrounded by these boys,
Who all,
for different reasons,
love this girl.
I have the most
handsome family.
We have raised the sweetest boys
the world will ever see.
And this man at my side,
I stare at his closed eyes
and I thank God for the father he is.
So brave
and perfect.
Of course,
Beast is a pig
and, Poo is a brat.
Of course, Moo and I argue,
bicker and spat.
No, we aren't perfect
but, at the same time,
we are.
Because my favorite time of day is
when they're all happy,
sleeping hearts.
