Body Of Gold Poem by Paula Glynn

Body Of Gold

Gold glitters around my neck,
Like a beautiful noose,
Stating grandeur and wealth,
And I will walk in my party heels,
Knowing this party, this show,
I will steal,
And I will be one of the best,
I will stay number one,
Many years coming and going,
Always remembering being young,
And my nails are manicured and I am lipstick-heavy,
That perfect red, caressing my mouth,
And as the lights of London switch on,
I switch my nerves off,
For this is a night in a tropical Indian summer,
That I shall always remember,
And will always treasure,
For I collect rose quartz, moonstone, amethyst, ruby,
Sapphire and emerald,
For all to see in wonder,
And to also paint this face,
In such a beautiful rainbow of colours,
Where understatement is not even a word,
And I am not a whore;
I do not live that way,
Because I live my own way and make my own rules,
And - yes - I am rich,
But I live this life as I wish,
And I do not want to be labelled into a neat little box;
I have many interests and hobbies,
But tonight I am elegant, painted and beautiful,
Like the portrait of a distinguished woman,
In a classical painting, that is awed with wonder.
