Bittersweet Escape Poem by Darren Tyler Howard

Bittersweet Escape

Some dream of an escape from reality
A break from day to day struggle.
Little do they know what this escape requires...
Some break out the bottle to douse the pain
Some hit cocaine to burn the brain
Needles and Pills
For temporary thrills
Until eventually all is lost
And the escape has been found
But it is not the escape imagined
Just consciousness that has been drained,
Streetside feelings of confliction
Where no one understands your addictions
Society wants no part of you
And you want no part of it.
For those that dream of escape -
Dream of confusion and heartbreak.
