Darren Tyler Howard Poems

No man truly understands it's beauty
Although we do appreciate in different ways
Too many people neglect their duty
Understanding not what is passing away.
...

Most days under most circumstances
I can go through and never be caught off guard.
I can look at my surroundings and know exactly what's coming.
I seldom have to be braced;
...

The two go hand in hand
Sobriety, a curs'ed gift
Anxiety, a resulting pain
Sober and Anxious people walk.
...

4.

Sex is desire expressed
It's joy and pleasure felt
It is a gift to another
and treasure well spent.
...

Like a tiger in a zoo
I sit or pace
Because there is little to do
Meals are provided
...

What do I lose-
if I do Drugs
Do I really lose my mind and life?
Or is it that the world is afraid
...

Born into struggle
Through sins of past blood
Eyes with blurred vision
Their world dirtied like mud,
...

Every time I say your name, my heart skips
Every time I look at you, I 'just smile'
Then your eyes remind me what is worthwhile
Darkness is brightened and burdens eclipsed.
...

Lungs warm from smoke
Body blue from winter cold
Every day more strain
Years are young but mind is old
...

A tired body
A drained mind
Shaky hands
and a calloused heart
...

11.

Dream
Why must I dream
Why must I lie awake with anxiety,
and fearful of rest for what my subconscious may create.
...

Some dream of an escape from reality
A break from day to day struggle.
Little do they know what this escape requires...
Some break out the bottle to douse the pain
...

Asphalt rays burn my eyes
Along with the heartless stares of passers-by
Dictated deceit
In every realm of reality
...

Body beaten; eyes tired and red,
Such is the life of the hands and the head
Aching joints and a worn mind
Week to week; day by day,
...

Do not torment the mind's perception;
Do not overdose on painful reflection.
Thoughts gain speed,
But principle holds power
...

Housed in Chains
Locked in Thought
Hardened by pain
Because Freedom's Bought
...

17.

Dreamers search for more and more.
Realists forget what they're fighting for.
Ugly truths of life persist
Good men forget why they exist
...

Reality is the anchor that grounds us.
Existence is the chance we're given.
Love is what makes us whole.
Expression is how we show we're still living.
...

19.

It slips away
When the mind is wandering....
...

A fair maiden lies wait in a far away tower
Perhaps enchanted by a magical spell
Lying in wait: It is her darkest of hours
Dreaming of escape- from her well kept Hell.

Darren Tyler Howard Biography

I was born and raised in a small rural town in Alabama, called Beulah. I moved to the uniquely beautiful city of Mobile when I was eighteen to go to the University of Mobile. Since the move I have worked odds and end jobs to get by day by day. I served over a year as a youth pastor as well as other years of ministerial roles. Due to personal conflict I have since resigned and done much life searching and refueled my passion as a poet and a writer. I am at the beginning of my serious poetic career and am developing as I write and study different styles. The goal is to express the beauty and enlightenment that I have in my own life to readers through poetry of all realms of life good and bad. In doing so I hope to one day become published and have an influence on the city and world I live in.)

No man truly understands it's beauty
Although we do appreciate in different ways
Too many people neglect their duty
Understanding not what is passing away.
Rome's beauty was built, but not created.
Experience the natural and be Elated.
