Birthday Poem by Varghese J Kuttikat

Birthday

If a star resplendently benevolent marks the birth,
The babe's people are particularly happy
And they are all for celebration, singing, dancing, feasting
Even though the babe later sparkles smiles
Every one comes crying he is born into the world
Perhaps, the utterly defenceless being is the human baby
Who is completely at the mercy of elders
The grown-ups for their sport brings to the site the little ones
At their pleasure fanciful set the crowns
Upon the tiny heads with pride ceremonious
And in vanity springing out of human love
Would believe coronation can be without crucifixion
