Beth Ware

Before Paul saw
that 'beth ware'
meant 'watch your step',
'take care',
he had seen it as short
for 'Elizabeth Ware',
and had adopted it
as his alias,
his nom de plume,
his pseudonyme,
his nom d'emprunt
(emprunt said
with silent 't') .
It was none too soon,
he was 63.

They had fun with his name
in Indonesia:
'awas' is 'beth ware';
they called him Awas
over there.
