Before Poem by Daniel Sims

Before

up here in the clouds in the sky,
birds scout for their next prey,
trees sway in the morning breeze,
and i stir next to you in our bed.

beautiful. how did i get so lucky?
how can one smile make you…
how can one laugh lift you…
how can one look break you…

into a million pieces, like a mirror,
i look back into the reflection,
but see not the pity and shame,
but you living within my very eyes,

for you see before i hurt you,
or rather hurt myself,
you were my everything,
and now i'm you're nothing.
