The Impossible Dream Poem by Daniel Sims

The Impossible Dream

Sometimes I dream even just for a day,
That perhaps we belong as a couple not one,
But then I remember what I mean to you,
A mere friend and a mortal but never your one,
But no matter I will soldier on,
Hoping that for one day you see me as I see you,
As your everything or at least your something,
Someone to rely on in times of grey,
A shoulder to cry on in times of hurt,
A true friend who listens despite the feelings,
Between us, or should I say me,
Because then I realise, I'm dreaming again,
And that you see me as a friend and never more,
With that final note in mind, I bid adieu,
And hope to see you where the clouds can't climb,
Or where the mountains aspire to be,
Finally, the time has come, and the heart stops,
The brain ceases to think, but the soul,
The soul will never stop feeling for you,
And as I watch over you and your life,
I realise the selfishness of my actions,
For maybe I was living my dream after all,
As the feelings I felt for you, you felt too,
And as i watch you weep and cry around others,
And the six foot box of no more,
I realise I was your one, and you were mine.
