Before Poem by Carolyn Brunelle

Before

Was a time he didn’t care,
Before he saw
The way the sunlight
Danced in her hair,
Before he heard her laugh
Found that he loved freckles;
Saw his life unfold
In her big green eyes.
Was a time she wasn’t there,
Before he felt so alive
And important to somebody,
Before he even knew
He was so alone,
Before he could see
That his life
Had promise after all.
Was a time he was lost
And nobody cared ...
But that was before.
