Be Silent Poem by philip mtange

Be Silent

Be silent, my heart
For the world cannot comprehend
The depth of your cries and desires
And the deafening silence of your aloneness.

Be silent, my heart
Lest you awaken the Phantom of death
And call attention to your sorrows
For he conceals himself in pity
Whilst a waiting to feast on your cries.

Be silent, my heart
And listen to the songs of war
Which praise the flavor in blood
And the sweetness in tears.

Be silent, my heart
And attend to my soul
And my spirit
And my being
For they are crying out in never-ending pain.

Be silent, my heart
And watch disappointment and desperation
Run havoc amidst my people
And dissipate hope
And wash away peace.

Be silent, my heart
Lest your awaken the spirit of the valley of death
Who will ridicule your inner whispering
And echo the vibration of your pain
In mock display.

Be silent, my heart….
