Batman And The Princess Poem by Denis Martindale

Batman And The Princess

When Bruce Wayne gazed across the room, he saw her standing there,
He knew the name of her perfume, the shampoo for her hair,
The labels on the dress she wore, the company she kept,
The hideaway, the hidden door, the bed on which she slept.
He knew her choice of weapons, too, the training every day,
He catalogued each point of view when called upon to say.
He checked his social calendar so that they seldom met,
Yet there were times he thought of her and sometimes felt regret.

It's true she dated now and then, but only for a while,
She looked for something more in men beyond a winning smile,
Beyond what riches they possessed, beyond their share of fame,
Beyond the men she had impressed, who played the dating game.
She wanted something more than love and all that it could bring,
Such men as these proved not enough, not like a prince or king,
She sensed the Dark Knight stole her heart the night he saved her life,
Yet could romance now play a part so she could be his wife?

Was he now jealous of the guys she dated week by week?
Would he at last soon claim his prize as if she were unique?
Would he advance to centre stage as though a candidate?
Show joy or passion, fear or rage, or choose to hesitate?
No other man had thrilled her so. She owed her life to him.
Was he married? She didn't know. Her chances seemed so slim.
One day she joined the Justice League and met him once again,
And found the love she hoped to seek with Batman now and then.
