Barricade At Dawn

  when I can finally tell
that I'm fully awake
to be seen
by the eyes of the sun
peeking through empty tree branches
and reflecting off the snow
to blind me at surprising angles
I can ask myself
who am I to promise
such an eternal commodity?
and how astonishing it is
that I dare believe it is true
when I am not completely sure
where I was born
or where my grave will lay
