Bar Tab Poem by Kewayne Wadley

Bar Tab

She said she needed an drink.
Something stronger than what gin or bourbon could provide.
I fastly grabbed my heart and untwisted the top.
Filling her glass.
Flourishes of never-ending violet circled the rim, funneling around
into the liquid that soon felt the caress of her lips.
The residue of good and bad times splashed the glass.
Seeking the everlasting passion she's always dreamed, secrets untold
continuing to drink.
Reminiscent of the bad times that's befallen her.
An listening ear delighted to speak in silence.
Her grasp became heavy.
Inebriated from the good times she sought.
In the light of bad times she remained quiet.
Seeking such vice to release her of her pain.
The thought of slitting her wrist to obtain what she couldn't find
crossed her mind.
Lost, alone. Legs weary of wondering the streets of her mind.
She contemplated moving on but couldn't find anywhere attractive.
An easy flow of liquid near filling the top of the glass.
Watching a reflection of sadness stir around, look back at her.
She saw herself in the glass. An ease of eyebrows pushing the glass away.
Seeking such vice to release her of her pain.
She continued wondering the streets of her mind
following which ever way the wind blew.
I wished her the best, hating to tell her the bar was closing soon.
Wondering the self inflicted streets created in her mind
