Baptized By Chaos Poem by Terry Dunham

Baptized By Chaos

Baptized By Chaos

This summer of confusion
How do I deal with this turmoil?
Gone- In a moment. This one
Who never told the truth.
Built on lies. Is that a relationship?
Wanting but not having.
Investing with no return…but pain.
Now holding nothing, no one;
When there should have been a person,
A husband, a father, a life.
Gone. But for better. Comparison only.
Better than…
Not better. Worse…just better than.
Eyes in my memory pleading, waiting,
But unable to connect.
Unwilling to be freed.
Only always hungry. Not giving, only taking;
Not understanding but just demanding.
Those eyes; those cold dark eyes.
With questions that weren’t conscious.
And hopefully fading so sleep will come again.
And peace. At least in part.
So pain can go away.
