Autumn Poem by Julia West (julesx 64)

Autumn

I am 86 in the autumn of my youth,
The seasons have come and gone,
Many moons have glowed and suns have shone.
My love is still with me and his eyes twinkle with glee,
Our hearts full of love for each other that can be seen.

Autumn colours reds, browns, rusts, dark green,
Shared scalves and blankets, warmth of hugs and cuddles he shares with me.
I love him so much every day anew, also thankful for each new day - emotions strong like when we first met.

His smile lights up the dullest of rooms.
As the autumn sun peeps up at dawn.
Thawing the morning frost left behind on grass and trees,
He looks at me, yes, I still go weak at the knees.
His voice 'hello' still sends a twitter down my spine,
Life, and years have been good, since he became mine.

He is 89 and making love takes a while,
Any effort never fails to raise a smile.
Arthritis has elluded us,
Experience has included us,
Many memories and laughter, chattering for hours,
Love and acceptance comfortably share life with us.

Thank you God for the beauty of your Autumns,
For allowing my love to be with me so long,
For our true love to be and remain strong.
Shared laughs, Shared tears,
In this the Autumn of our years.
