Auf Wiedersehen Poem by Theodore Andrews

Auf Wiedersehen

Auf Wiedersehen

I thought I could forget you, with the passing of the years,
In the darkness I still see you, through the haze of bitter tears.
You come to me in slumber, in the stillness of the night,
You stay with me in silence, till dawn's early light.

So why must I still dwell here, where you no longer do?
I know this might sound foolish but I've tried to honour you!
I hope you are in heaven while I live on in hell.
I never can forget that day of when your spirit fell.
Our hearts both stopped in tandem when your body hit the ground,
Our mortality, now etched on me from triggering that fateful round.

We thought we fought for honour, with an inferno in our souls,
We thought we killed for country but instead it was for fools.
I think of you in passing, with sorrow and with pain,
Until we meet again my friend I will just say, 'Auf Wiedersehen'

A heart touching sad story impressively narrated in a poem embellished in poetic rhyme and rhythm. An amazing story of war and love. Thanks for sharing Samuel.
