At Wheatley's Freedom Wagon Poem by Ahmad Shiddiqi

At Wheatley's Freedom Wagon

Rating: 5.0

when Ondine was played by Horowitz
stay on, stay on my friends!
the freedom wagon is miles away
garland of glory wait for you all day

with black eyes we traced the line
and all at once things seemed so fine
the clear sky above looked so grand
we screamed to touch it with bare hand

stay on, stay on my love!
whispered to us from silken glove
in victorious remorse of soul
for the eternity paid we toll

the sun is neither red or pale
and calls up the children in a fairy tale
let us promise to meet again
near in this fate between

I summon you to love, silent longing!
you drowned in the dark cave
the fearful spirit of life
I live beside, darling

(with great admiration to Phillis Wheatley 's poems)
