Are We The Sum Total Poem by Francis Duggan

Are We The Sum Total

Are we the sum total of our lives experiences as some educated people do say
Or are they right those who see human destiny in a different way
Though withoutmemory it is true we would not have a link to the past
And we learn from our gift of memory for as long as with us it does last
Some people though not many have been known to rise above poverty
But with those who say that the majority of those who are born poor will die poor seems hard to disagree
For most people their circumstance of birth their future define
That poverty in generations of most poor families remain an unbroken line
That a poor person with will power that her or his poverty can transgress
And on so doing turndisadvantage into huge success
But like as is often said it isfar easier said than done
For out of talk achievements in life are never won
Are we the sum total of our lives experiences ask one other than me
Suppose we all look at life in our ways differently.
