Anticipating Spring Poem by Theresa Ann Moore

Anticipating Spring

After days of winter winds
And snowflakes that blind sight
Early morning light brought forth
An emerging calm delight

Snowplows have piled high mounds
Of crusting heaps of clear the way
The rock salt cast upon the road
Makes it no longer suited for a sleigh

Today indicates that conditions are improving
The sun is very bright upon the soft snow
Sunglasses are necessary to hush the glare
Thankfully we can put aside hibernating woes

I see a phenomena that is utterly convincing
Our surroundings are suitable for venturing
An unusual amount of dogs are being walked
On freshly shoveled sidewalks… conjecturing

A Labrador Retriever leads sniffing the air
A Mastiff is surefooted with each step he takes
A Golden Retriever prances with head held high
A Cockapoo scampers playfully nuzzling flakes

Canine owners amble behind enjoying the view
Warm coats and gloves ward off the cold sting
Accompanied by cozy knit hats and scarves
Optimistically calculating the weeks until Spring
