Anthem Of My Light Poem by Kevin Patrick

Anthem Of My Light

Rating: 5.0

Red Roses give me allergies and milk chocolate diabetes
cheap ballads are like calories Empty as a Hallmark treaties

Cards have potential Paper cuts
and lace provides an arrant rash Perfume can make my nostrils choke
And teenage love just make me lash

A Hearts an ugly pump that clogs And always weaken to infarctions Doves are diseased and carry pox
But are a handsome Pestilence

If all these trinkets you need adore
Then I bid you with fond adieu
A love that's rich needs not fool's gold
Which needless youth always accrues

To watch the space you occupy
Is quite enough to rest my eyes
In heavens embrace of your soul
Which I would gladly call my home

To cross a bridge made of fire
Within your hand I won't retire
Is the pledge I've made my mission
Forever my queen of joyous sedition

For Pass the wreaks of summers nations is the cross for wizened sages to bear the wealth of hardships grace
Is more than the symbols idolaters place

Your minds a flower, your words are candy
Truth is your poem, earthly and dandy
For in all these worlds of mortal sight
You are the anthem of my light

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I'm almost disgusted with myself with this one, sounds cheesy but it just came out, this is corny as Iowa, but that silly romantic in me just comes off. Now I got to find something to be angry about.

The first four stanzas list some of the obvious perils in life which makes life itself unreliable. There's wit in this survey of those temptations we must avoid. And your poem comes to a satisfying conclusion in the 8th stanza of open-hearted praise for your main squeeze (i like that idiom for a true love!) . Actually your poem is a kind of funny version of Matthew Arnold's wedding poem for his wife DOVER BEACH. Look at how your theme matches his: AH, LOVE, LET US BE TRUE/TO ONE ANOTHER! FOR THE WORLD, WHICH SEEMS... / SO VARIOUS, SO BEAUTIFUL, SO NEW, /HATH REALLY NEITHER JOY, NOR LOVE, NOR LIGHT etc You're saying the same thing in a joking manner but it's also truly spoken.
