Animal Person Poem by Donal Mahoney

Animal Person

Linda's an animal person
who puts her money where
her mouth is, owns a ranch

outside the city and takes in
kittens, puppies, birds that
fall out of nests, Vietnamese

pot-bellied pigs acquired as pets
then let free to roam the streets.
But Linda is also a doctor

with a practice in the city
that enables her to pay a vet
and workers at her ranch.

Clients come from miles around
to her clinic with the big sign
Women's Reproductive Health.

The sign also says everyone is
welcome but when two go in
the tiny one gets left behind.
