And Yet Poem by Athena King

And Yet

It has been years and months and weeks and days and hours and minutes and second since
Then.
So long that a chasm has opened and the memories are blurred
on the other side by time.
And yet...
And yet...
And yet…
I still exist There
I still remember every day that
crashed down around me
leaving me
the ruin that I am now.
It is inescapable.
And yet
And yet
And yet
I am Here
I am ALIVE
I am 18
And yet
they are not
they never will be
they are dead
And yet
And yet
And yet...

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This is actually an old poem that I thought deserved to see the light of day. I wrote it on my birthday because I was struck by the fact that I had made it to adulthood when so many people that I knew did not.
