Letter To You Poem by Athena King

Letter To You

I.
Dearest little one,
I have tried for the longest time to forget that You exist.
To forget a time when I was
so. weak.
A time when I was a nail and life was a hammer
When really, I was a seed and life was a shovel
but people were still hammers.

II.
It was never your fault.
The worst that you have ever done was remain silent.
The silence was fool's gold but
You saw the shine
And made the mistake.

III.
How lucky We are-
Me, Myself, and I-
That You made those mistakes.
We are here.
We are here.
We are here.
Others are not so lucky but
We are here.
We are here.
We are here.

IV.
You have a heart so big,
So accepting,
So open,
That anything can come in through the unlocked door
And wreck You completely.

But You have a heart so big,
So accepting,
So open
That anyone can come in through the unlocked door

And look at the mess

And offer to help You clean it up.
And one day: You will learn to let them.

V.
Dearest little one,
I yearn for the day when You realize that life gets better
And worse
And better
And that You have survived it all
And will live to have to survive more
And You will survive.

VI.
You were always so confident.
You knew everything.
You thought You knew everything.
I know nothing.
I know I know nothing.
We want to learn more.
Keep that passion and let it be a guiding star.

VII.
Dearest little one,
Life is tough. You are tougher.
Continue. Endure. Live.
Sincerely, I
