And The Apple Fell Poem by chris orton

And The Apple Fell

From Son

Can I offer you my view of our past.
A world, walking the taught wire of your aggression.
The goal was to give us everything in your possession.
I saw your mistakes, and these were lessons that would last.

I knew the roads you walked so why did I follow the route.
You loved her but hid in your darkness, and lost her.
I loved her, knowing the dangers, stayed in the light, and lost her.
Now I stand before you, knee deep in personal doubt.

Challenging you here to accept your mistakes,
But when pushed, an old darkness in you awakes
A veil falls between us and again you're not there.

Were my energies misplaced, railing against fate
Pre-ordained failure via your mistakes, mine to recreate,
And palpable, there in loneliness for us to share.

From Father

I never gave you all you needed, but I gave you all I could.
I worked, I tried, I cared, I aimed for bliss, and missed.
Failure was not my intention but, my inevitable destination.
Like you, maybe it was the only outcome for good.

The darkness that's buried deep within my soul
now presides over our meetings, putting me in the firing line.
It looks through my eyes to be greeted by its son, not mine.
I feel you looking to me for strength and finding me cold.

I have built the wall you feel in this frigid zone.
Years I have spent behind it, strengthening its face of stone.
I would break it down for you but it shields me from my weakness.

Are we destined to repeat this autopsy of failed unions.
Picking over the bones of our pains and imperfections.
I will ask you to give me the one thing I don't deserve, forgiveness.
