An Unequal Love Poem by Bireswar Halder

An Unequal Love

What heady illusions that engulf this world, misleading us
None is left alone by the power of these illusions
Even sages are sometimes distracted and are befallen
It's really very difficult to get rid of the mirage that tests us.

I drink poison thinking it to be nectar and a reaction starts
A severe burning sensation I feel round the clock
Neither I can sleep peacefully nor speak of my heartburn
What a mistake I committed unknowingly - I don't know at all.

I start pouring water over my body to get a relief from burning sensation
Nothing helps - silently I weep at night over a tragedy of life.
Neither I am Lord Nilakanta to digest this poison nor can I throw it out
An unequal love like poison makes my life miserable.

I can't forget you from my heart as also I can't live together
I know you have so many deep stains which are not erasable
A human being with good character is loved by all - I know it
As good character is like a crown made of diamonds glinting for others.

Sometimes I feel myself a caged bird having its door open always
Still I can't fly to meet you; a hidden invisible power restricts my wings
I don't know which power is more powerful - illusions or an unequal love
Oh dear, I can't think as my thinking power is lost because of poison.

The dreams she dreamt with her child don't last long
The mother's lap becomes a void and she starts crying loudly
The living angels are now prey of some unscrupulous doctors
The barbaric Satan in human guise sells out this child.

These heartless beasts start business of child trafficking everywhere
They never think of the fate of these children and their mothers
These inhuman criminals can do whatever they like for money
And we do observe as mute spectators - no protest against the heinous crime.

Are we observing silence for the dead or living human beings?
Why we are so deaf and dumb, who will treat us - these inhuman doctors?
The time has come to awaken all and to raise the voice jointly
That can be done by the kind hearted public and not by others.

Oh cruel doctors, have you forgotten the oath taken by you all
To serve the mankind irrespective of caste, creed and religion
Please leave the noble profession if you are really hungry for money
What a degradation of morality - think twice before plunging into such crime.
