An Ode To Swami Vivekananda Poem by Tushar Ray

An Ode To Swami Vivekananda

(On His 150th Birth Anniversary)

You have been at the heart of world conscience
Over the decades of religious disharmony
Oh Vivekananda Swami -
Guiding light of mankind over years in the making
Pursuant to your lead for a global harmony
In the first Parliament of Religions in Chicago
Little over a century and a decade ago
Oh, Swami
You pioneered Vedanta in the West in embodied form
Setting up a new paradigm for the world to learn
On the oneness of all religions for a global harmony
Oh, beloved Swami
Your grand vision is now visible in a tangible form
In spite of all the conservative commotion
Toward fulfilling your pet mission,
On the Unity of all Religion for a global harmony
Oh Vivekananda Swami!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
The harmony amongst science, spirituality and world-religions was introduced to the West by a 28-year old western educated Swami Vivekananda in the most articulated fashion on September 11,1893 in the first Parliament of Religions in Chicago (Parliament Addresses, http: //www.ramakrishna.org/sv.htm) . The Harvard Professor John Henry Wright who recommended the Swami for world-religions delegation in the Chicago Parliament told Swami Vivekananda: 'To ask you, Swami, for your credentials is like asking the sun about its right to shine.'

During his speech the great Swami said, "Science of religion becomes perfect when it would discover Him who is the one life in a universe of death, Him who is the basis of an ever-changing world" and "Manifestation and not creation is the word of science today - - All science is bound to come to this conclusion in the long run". We see now the accuracy of his master vision being manifested globally and honoring his spiritual teachings as the "Vivekananda Vedanta" today.
