America Matters Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

America Matters

For anyone sold,
On racism to buy.
And invest in it.
Along with division and disparities,
To participate in conflicts.
America matters.
As it drifts,
Towards the crossroads of survival.

Be you one,
Of a hyphenated race.
To separate your ethnicity.
With an origin to announce embraced.
Dividing further a 'United States'.
Does this status to have it,
Make anyone 'white'...
Accept to believe,
They have the right without insight...
To fight over entitlements.
Received through a deceiving,
Contradicting beliefs.
Re-written throughout history.

A history purposely,
To have undermined to diminish...
A depended upon diversity.
Perpetrating heroic deeds,
Accomplished to achieve...
BY those colorless.
And documented to believe.

America matters.
Be you black, white, yellow or brown.
With freedoms to have,
Nowhere else on Earth found.

America matters.
To you, me and all of us.
Seeking equally to feed a greeding...
To do this selfishly.

We...
Are at the crossroads of a survival.
Together to do what is right.

Or...
Keep the fighting going on.
Until America doesn't matter.
To brag about a greatness.
No longer to exist!

Ask yourself this...
What is it,
That makes America to matter.
