Alone In Darkness Poem by Ashley McBean

A dark shadow all around me
I am frightened and alone
A sharp pain pierces through my heart
I cry out but no one hears me
A tear falls from my eye
I reach and wipe it away
Still another one falls and
more keep falling
I plead with none but shadows
to make the pain go away
They start to close in taking
every breath from my body
I feel my life drifting away
as I wait in the darkness
for someone to set me free
The shadows themselves
take over my mind, body, & soul
I hear them whispering in my ears
'No one will come to rescue you dear.'
i try to speak but cannot for
my voice has been taken from me
Still they taunt me with whispers
'You are alone and no one cares.'
An image of my friends and family
appear in front of me.They are laughing
even when I am not there.
I holler out to them but they are slipping
farther and farther away as I
drift farther and farther into darkness.
I lie crying alone, to weak to mover or speak
I close my eyes ready to sleep
for all eternity in darkness
The pain is still unbearable
tears still keep falling
I do not bother wiping them away
soon after I wipe one, one
falls into place.
I think to myself so the shadows
will not hear my thoughts
'Maybe I'm meant to be alone
after all. May I am meant
for nothing more than for
others to step on and hurt.
After all no one will come,
my pain is nothing to them.'
I lay there for what seems like eternity
a warm light falls over my body
a pair of arms cradle me and
plead that I wake up.
I find enough voice to speak softly
'Who are you? Why do you
plead with me so? You reply
'I am one who wishes for you
to open your eyes and to come
back to me. I am the one who
wishes to take the pain away and
keep your heart safe.'
Another tear falls but one of happiness
instead of pain. As he carries me in his arms
I think 'Perhaps there is someone who cares for me.'
