Alabaster Cake Poem by John Martinez

Alabaster Cake

To live to lie awake
For just a morsel of alabaster cake

As she sheds her frosting on a silver lake

Just desserts for those who sin
Complete and swift like a mighty wind

Where does this rhyme pretend to lead?
to live, to lie as a humble seed

And blossoming up from shallow ground
A plaintive nod to a silent sound

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I joined a creative life writing group two years ago. This was my very first attempt at poetry, and I've been 'hooked' ever since.
