After Life Poem by Andy Sutcliffe

After Life

I can see a better place to be
One that waits for you and me
A place with ripe and fertile land
Never touched by human hand
Away from this place of slow decay
A perfect world a perfect day
Where some have gone and we will follow
Maybe today maybe tomorrow

We do not know when it will be
But it will come I guarantee
And then its time to say goodbye
I will be sad I cannot lie
And leave the ones I love, I must
Unless they've gone and turned to dust
And then my sadness will turn to joy
And emotions of happiness I will employ
Because I know they wait for me
In that haven my mind can see
This perfection this paradise this waiting land
This meadow this beach of golden sand
Its yours its mine whatever you dream
A forest a mountain a sparkling stream

But we must wait until that day
When we are called to go away
To that land of milk and honey
Where it's clean and always sunny
And yours is waiting for you as well
Be it heaven or be it hell
Because this is your own design
This is yours it is not mine
For you have created in your own mind
That place to go and leave behind
This world this life this mark you make
A lasting legacy that will never break

And this life will become a faded dream
A ghost a shadow or so it will seem
In that place that waits for you and me
That place that life we cannot yet see.
