Afraid To Think Poem by Randy McClave

Afraid To Think

Reading a book about a gay character
Will not ever make you gay,
You will not change your gender, or become a pretender
In any aspect or in any way.

Reading a book about Albert Einstein
Will not make you a genius at all,
You won't understand science, or how to operate any appliance
From what he had read and/or saw.

If you're reading a book about weight loss
It will not ever make you any thinner,
Just like reading a recipe book, won't make you a better cook
And it will not ever make you a Chef for dinner.

Reading a book about Mother Teresa
Won't automatically make you marvelous or good,
Reading the Bible won't make you a Christian, you won't glisten
Though I wished and prayed that it truly would.

If you're afraid that books will change a persons thoughts
Then you are not afraid or worried of the printing,
You are not afraid or in dread, what books to be read
You are just afraid of the thinking.
