Affordable And Cheap Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Affordable And Cheap

Always there will be,
Someone, somewhere, somehow.
Blaming to claim,
Ignorance is everywhere.
As if easily to obtain it to get.
Like a disease to envy,
The not having of it.

And yet...
It is the expense of keeping,
Near it to be around.
Many these days are heard to complain,
About finding it to see.
Done too close to them to hear the sound.
Found but can not avoid.

But kept to allow they will and do.
When out and about,
Shopping to seek...
Affordable and cheap medication.
Anything to numb,
What they have done to themselves.
With a consciousness permitted to exist.
To know yet deny their involvement.
And...
Even sedated,
Under the influence of mind numbing medication.
Still annoyed.
By the slightest noise that upsets them.

"Will you please stop that humming.
What makes you the only one qualified,
To ride the bus.
As if you have something to hide,
From the rest of us.
What are you so happy about? "

-I'm sorry.
You speaking to me?
I have these earplugs in my ears.
Listening to music.
It helps me to avoid,
The many today...
Finding something to complain about.
And their situations,
They have created themselves.
I apologize.
Did you want my attention? -

"What difference would that make now?
I've spent enough money as it is."

-I found them on sale.
Affordable and reasonably priced too.
I think of them as an investment.
Much cheaper than prescribed drugs.
Hoping to numb reality away.-

"To me...
Your investment,
Has begun to hum too loudly.
Around my time released medicated nerves."

-I see.
You must be,
One of those retired community organizers? -

"All I ask,
Is to lower your humming.
To do until I get off the bus.
And maybe someone else,
Will appreciate your psychic abilities."

-Yep.
Once a community organizer.
Always a community organizer.
Attempting to stay patient.-

"Hummer?
I should have kept my mouth closed."

-Wow!
You're a mind reader too, huh? -
