Act Of Kindness Poem by Paul Sebastian

Act Of Kindness

Rating: 5.0

Worn teenager, hunger pangs driven
Selling door to door, some detergent
Working hard to pay his college fees
Knocked on a door, his pride eased
Hoping to get a simple meal, instead
Door opened, a lady stood, middle-aged
Surfaced fear changed the teenager's mind
So, asked a glass of water, if she didn't mind
He looked lean, hungry and tired, she figured
So she offered him a big glass of milk, instead
Which he gulped down so quickly
Then asked how much he had to pay, kindly
She replied: ‘My mother had always taught me
To never charge for kindness shown to anybody'
Kind gesture touched, he thanked her gratefully

Years later a graying frail-looking woman
Hospitalized for prolonged treatment
Had her doctor in a moment recognized her
It's the kind hand that appeased his hunger
Relentlessly he cared for her recovery
After battling long with her infirmity
She recovered completely, miraculously
But, sighed heavily looking at her hospital bill
Then, tearfully read the seven words on the bill:
PAID OFF WITH A GLASS OF MILK

I have heard this story before! But to read it in poetic form with your imagination embellishing it is indeed a great experience! Enjoyed this poem with the message that an act of kindness will ever be remembered and sometimes paid back in greater measures than expected!
