Aṣ̌A Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Aṣ̌A

Aṣ̌a

From the sun and moon,
From the water's move,
From the wind, breeze,
From the Earth, as is,
And the skies' stars,
Run away, go to hide!

Everywhere, ancestors
Keep looking and stare!

Am ashamed!
Am afraid!

On me they rain questions:
"How could you ignore them? "

They speak Pahlavi,
Or older, in something
That to me, means nothing!

Am afraid!
Need escape!
Feel ashamed!

Talking of ancestors,
Can see them everywhere!

In their eyes burn questions:
"How could you? Forgot them? "

To them child, ignorant!
Look for a cave or desert!

Zoroaster's disciples,
Under swords, converted,
Read Koran as Muslims!
If dare with glances,
Secretly look at them,
Encounter their stares:
"You thankless betrayer,
You deserve to suffer! "
