A Widow Poem by Ernestine Northover

A Widow

Rating: 5.0

A lonely pebble on a distant beach,
A castaway, tossed out of reach.
A solitary burden on this earth left,
A wanderer now, and so bereft.
A double act, once upon a time,
A feeling I'm not worth a dime.
A widow, struggling all alone,
A life instantly turned to stone.
A waif, a stray, lost and forlorn,
A heart so hurt, fragile and torn.
A someone once, a no one now,
A resolve to make it through somehow.
A faith, that life won't be in vain,
A trust, that in heaven we'll meet again.

A truly heartbreaking sonnet; a sorrowful testimony to enduring love, its loss and the various crushing aspects of isolation that follow. A sad and beautiful composition. xx jim

A beautiful, yet deeply sad, poem of loss and lost hope. I suspect that this is a cry for a lost one, and, although easy for me to say, I hope you can find many more positives in your far from unfinished life. 'Hope springs...' You will always be someone! jack.

Once someone, always someone - you could never be anything less, dear heart. The sorrow and loss resonate. Much love, Esther

It's the knowing that the void is only temporary that allows one to, in time, adopt a temporary closure to the void, which in the scheme of time is a mere single grain of sand on the largest beach...A fine penning, Ernestine............................Frank

You have expressed the heartache and pain of loss memorably in this beautiful piece. I'm sure there a days when you feel like this and others when there is more than a glimmer of hope and light. The pendulum of grief tends to swing like that. Thanks for sharing your sorrow. And remember there are many on this site who care. love, Allie xxxx

Fantastic! Love the style. Simple yet so powerful. The imagery is amazing, reaching to the heart of the reader. This reader has a little more sympathy for the plight. Your poem did this and more.10/10

You will never be a 'no-one now' Ernestine. Grief and sorrow are so well-expressed in this poem but as Allie said, there will be days when you feel like this, and days when you will realise that there is plenty in life which is positive and meaningful. We're all out here to hold your hand, too..... Love, Fran xxx

Such pain and sorrow expressed in this 'beautifully sad' poem. Your life is still before you and you are still very much someone. Hope and light are within reach. Warmest wishes, Justine.
