A WARM-UP POEM

Why a poem now?
Who needs a poem now?
There is no one waiting and no one wanting
A poem is a small beginning to a larger something else
For a writer who does not know what he is doing
Even a bad poem or lines which are no poem
Any writing
A warm-up poem in service of something else
A poem that might be ashamed of itself
If it had to claim any place in worlds of Poetry
Just lines
A warm- up
For now.

Makes me think that we as poets are somewhat athletes of the mind and soul, Exercising them calls for warm ups from time to time. Cleverly thought and done.

I think it is always good to look back and analyze what we are writing in the name of poetry. If it falls short of your expectation, it must be a warm-up act. Thanks.
