A Veterans Lament Poem by Ed Homer

A Veterans Lament

Eyes burning
Breathing flames
Anger at its
Highest peak

I see the death
Of a nation
I can do nothing
For I am weak

I lay bleeding
My sword broken
All I have left
Is my pen

And so I write
My final declaration
Of how I miss
My once great homeland

Invasions of the people
Once considered our friends
Held back their hatred
Now it has become the end

Trust is no longer
For even my countrymen
Have sold out to the enemy
For the some of one cent

It all means nothing
In the end of things
Like Vietnam
It will all change

And those who sold us out
Will be the ones to gain
As god is my witness
In my moment of pain

I wish death to you all
For the treason
For your hatred
Will come on judgement day

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I wasted 10 years on a country that feels I am but a burden to them now, But they love the holiday they get off due to my service.
