A Thousand Miles Of Rain Poem by Dosvedanya Rashia

A Thousand Miles Of Rain

Rating: 5.0

It was a rainy day today,
After the hot sunshine
Baked painfully across our backs
In the afternoon

The festival was driven
To a dismal end,
People running from the celebration
Fleeing from the sky

A festival to celebrate the Gods,
Was rained out; isn’t it ironic?
The wind swirled around us
As we prayed together facing
The blasts of thunder.

Today a wedge a million miles
Long, a thousand deep of love
Was driven between my friend and I.
A boy of six, and kind wife back home;
I let my hopes, wane and die.

The smiles and gentleness, already
Have a home to go to, a family to love
A work and a purpose in life;
And surely that good, right?

I walk through the rain, the mile to
My small space, come home with
Clothes, black and somber as a
Funeral for a Corazon of crows.

Loneliness, a wry smile; chagrin
I laugh a little at myself.
As a heart, I had not know I had,
Fractures in a small way.

His hair was like a kitten’s;
Dark and beautiful, brown eyes full of
Warmth, and often with a hug to spare.
Had he asked me, I would have said yes

But life goes on, and now I wring
The water from my hair, and I move
Back to my books, my writing;
A solace for the evening’s facade.
The night has come now
And my old cat whines for his dinner.
The sounds of the dark are stilled
And my thoughts fall down like leaves.

Tomorrow will be a clear dawn, I think
And the sky will lighten and the doves
Around my little house will sing to me
Filling my little garden with soft coos.

With the peace of doves and hope that
The morning often brings,
I will walk again, leaving my pasos behind.

And the road whose name I do not know.
Called life, A thousand miles or more,
Will have spring on it, despite the rain
Somewhere… Some day.
