The book, wide open
Primed to confess
The rings of darkness
Spilt on her dress
Whispers fall through
Off the tip of the tongue
Painting the portrait
In verses unsung
Pages weep softly
In an air of distress
Just longing for more
While finding much less
Accepting the blow
Of a cold wintry night
While holding up trust
With rain in her eyes

Rumor runs rampant
The meaning is blurred
When secrets are whispered
In a pot that is stirred
Sometimes confession
Often a ruse
Designed for deception
Meant to confuse
The truth of all longing
Hides deep within
In lines of her anger
The sighs of her sin
Her heart, like a treasure
Trapped in a cage
Is burned by the fire
Torched by her rage

With chapters unwritten
Pages left blank
A half-baked idea
Of a ship that has sank
Cover to cover
A long, lonely song
Of have and have nots
Of cold weary bones
When ink has forgotten
The voice of the muse
The message is tangled
The passion confused
The story, unfinished
No ending in sight
Just pages left blowing
In the still of the night

Absolutely brilliant, a rare gem of a poem. I had to read it twice.
