A Song Known To Many Poem by Francis Duggan

A Song Known To Many

Rating: 5.0

A song known to many as well as to me
Of the magpie lark also known as pee wee
Their song sounds like pee wee quite high pitched and clear
And one does hear them sing every day of the year
They build a cup shaped nest of mud mixed with fiber on fork of branch of tree
That from the ground is never hard for to see
The female bird lay three to five eggs pink spotted and white
And she and the male defend the nest site
Devoted to each other as husband and wife
Magpie larks they are known for to pair for life
From where people live never far away
They are birds i do hear and see every day
As they sing the male and the female raise their wings up and down
And they even reside in the parks of the town.
