A Small Show Poem by Kaitlin Meaney

A Small Show

The musician stands on the stage,
Lyrical poems falling from his lips;
The small crowd hanging on his every word
Hoping to escape reality for a while

The venue is small
And the crowd may be smaller
But some are here for one reason alone;
To hear a little piece of someone else’s life through song,
Others are here to escape the rainy weather
As well as to see a friend or two perform.

Emotion takes its hold on the audience
As the brother and sister act continues.
Another song ends as another begins,
Much like a life in the outside world,
Beyond the tunes and the poems
That surround this place
Of song and dance.
