A Sluggard Poem by Dave Dafes

A Sluggard

The slothful will ever find a reason to sloth,
Everyone but him liable for his failure he blames,
Ever querulous, “If only I had this or that,
If only I was sired by such and such a person
At such and such a time in such and such a place”,
My fate‘d have being different,
Always wishing to be another,
With others, himself he compares,
Dissatisfied with self, but loath to take course
To be what they wish to be,
Always envious of other peoples’ fortune,
But averse to paying their price,
He seeks for more opportunities,
When the little he has, nothing he does,
“How can you handle much?
When you’re not faithful with the less? ”
First with less your worthiness prove,
Then more ‘d find you worthy ‘n’ berth at your shore
When his mates toil and blisters under Solar’s fury
He says “there is a lion in the street less I be slain”
Then lingers at home in idleness, a busybody,
Why are you the only one to sight the lion?
Are you a mutton that the lion should be after you alone?
Considers only the whys an idea won’t work,
A pessimist, only the impossibility in opportunity he sees,
A critic, quick to notice the flaws in others
But blinded to the faults that reflects from his mirror,
The problem isn’t without but within your head,
Even if in an ocean of opportunity you daily bathe,
A slothful you’ll be till evermore comes.
