A Simplistic Review Poem by Orlando Belo

A Simplistic Review

From our very first moments together
to the absolute seconds of our last.
We journeyed through the present
which instantly became our past.

Through a seemingly too long infancy
and annoying, impatient, childhood days.
To the frustrating times of teenage years,
adulthood crisis, and forgetful old age.

A whole lifetime full of mixed emotions,
of disappointments, joy, and sadness.
The passion of love, and the heartbreak
of anxiety, and unwelcome stress.

Promises that were honestly made then broken,
and untruths that purposely misled.
Ambitions that became castles in the air,
leaving failures and compromises instead.

From short-lived good luck to long term no luck,
to limitless times, so boring and mundane.
To a life of too many sudden illnesses',
with debilitating suffering and pain.

But also to a life to be thankful for,
of good health and relative success.
But what about the life of an unfortunate,
forever being put to the test?

And when one sits back to review one's life,
from the time between birth and death.
All that we have experienced counts for nothing
after we have taken our one and only last breath.
