A Simple Web Poem by Tina Cartwright

I read
'A Dream Within A Dream'
by Poe
online
As I think of that final
Grain of sand
He could not save
From the sea

It's a metaphor
for saving inspiration
from the mundane
For striving
For freedom, purity
of the mind

But my eye waivers
Across the screen
'Drop 3 Dress Sizes'
Discover the
shocking truth
About Australia's hottest
diet'

Tears are in my eyes
Not just because
I lament the calm curve
of the petal
of the delirium
of the scent
of the rose I saw
the other day

But because
still with me
is the shock of
27 found dead
dumped in trucks
in a busy crossroads
of Guadalajara

And in this mesh
of nightmare, anger
and beauty
I wonder
How will we
ever be free
to think
and feel again

But then I see it
A link
Read poems on: dreams, feeling, hope
Ah, it'll all be ok then
