A Shattered Town Poem by Srivinay Salian

A Shattered Town

The Sun rose again
For the town
That had once been

Its rays tried in vain
To spread light
Over the recent ruin

The Town was dead
Victim of nature’s wrath
Engulfed by the earth

Trapped in the lifeless arms
Of the woman who fed
A child was left alive

Crying for aid
It looked up in hope
For what life was worth

One eye aimed
While the other
Ignored the plight

Capturing the moment
The reporter walked away
Having done his duty
