A Prayer Poem by Sankaranarayanan Madavu

A Prayer

A prick on the skin matters not,
but in heart, it does,
the pain lingers long, though under wraps, often,
but raising its head when most unwelcome.
So too the unfit word uttered,
giving misery, as it can't be taken back.
And so, I pray with the day dawning,
Oh God, give me strength enough
to pause a bit before uttering,
and a clear and calm mind,
lest I utter a word unwelcome,
hurting the one whom I do mind.
