A Poem For Mom Poem by Caroline Guedes

A Poem For Mom

I honestly don't know how you've survived
The violence, the addictions, the heartbreaks you've endured
I know I should say this aloud to you
But my voice won't suffice, so I'll use written word

When I think of the past, the pain life has handed you
I'm always so amazed that you can still smile
You are the definition of a fighter, you never quit
When I was weak you were strong, carrying me all the while

I'll get choked up just mentioning your wins,
Your obstacles overcome, your bravery
You were once near death and you rose
as if from the ashes, filled with hope and clarity

If I were in your shoes, I can admit
I don't think I'd be able to make it through
But you did. You exceeded all expectations
You proved most importantly to yourself there's no stopping you

And when you get down, and look back at the losses
And what you may never recover again
Just remember, you are the most awe-inspiring
Mother, sister, and loyal friend

Some people have climbed a few hills
But you've scaled mountains and always arrived at the top
Don't forget where you've come from and the
Lessons you've learned, the cycle of fear you've stopped

I know I don't say it enough, but please
Don't take it as a sign that I don't care
I thank God for all you have always been to me
A Mother with endless compassion and love to spare
