A Place To Rest Poem by Trevor Toews

A Place To Rest

Rating: 5.0

That ray of light, and heat, and power
Which leaves the sun and never finds a mark,
That travels on and on and on,
Ever dimming,
until it’s swallowed up in dark…

I’ve thought a while about that ray.

A billion of them, leaping every moment from the endless Source.
Most with no target, no place on which to rest
While several find a cold and distant planet
Offering a gift of cheerfulness,
But no eyes see, no skin feels the radiance of their love.
They find their end, and that is all.
And e’en the rays that fall
Upon our World.
So many dive into the ocean,
Their only glory, just a glimmer on a wave.
Then they are gone, astray.
I cry to you.
WHAT GOOD ARE THEY!
?

Ten trillion megawatts of power, and heat and light.
Wasted in a second’s tick.

And seconds tick,
And life goes on,
I see the first sharp pierce of light as breaks the dawn.
And I am blessed
Just to know that these have traveled through the miles
And found their rest,
On me.

These are the lucky ones,
The rays that have a purpose at their end,
That warm a flower and help it grow,
That light the city where a million, to and fro,
Can walk and work, and live beneath their glow.

What good is Love without a mark to fall upon?
Without an object’s mass to warmly grace?
If Love is everywhere, does any go to waste?

There’s power we will never use,
Light we’ll never see,
Ah, yes!
Maybe it is true,
This world only came to be
So Love could find a place to rest.

This poem is truly awesome. I love the way you use the laws of nature to convey truth, that there is a purpose for all things. Lovely read
